Did you know that alongside humans, buildings can run for City Council? The Blendini City Council comprises 50% humans and 50% buildings, representing both populations equally.

This City Council building pictured is named Fernando Fiddle.

He is one of the six buildings that currently has a seat on the Blendini City Council. Fernando represents the Brigadoun District Council. One of the human city councilpersons lives with Fernando within his building. This is a great thing for the neighborhood constituents who these City Council Members represent!

The citizens also use the Fernando building as a place to congregate for town hall meetings where both members of the council can communicate about the goings on of Blendini City on a city level and a neighborhood district level. Built in 2122, before being elected to City Council in 2142, Fernando served as a bluegrass school for the Banjo Creek neighborhood. Many students have graduated the halls of his bluegrass school and play in the many music venues around the city, the region, and abroad.

As Mayor, I like working with Fernando, but we have a lot of disagreements.

Fernando is a short-term thinker, which is sometimes very good and I appreciate on City Council. Quick problems need quick solutions. You need to sometimes throw things at the wall and see what sticks. Fernando’s Brigadoun district is one of the lower-income districts in the city, and economically stagnant (except for the Blenini Market neighborhood, which is very strong). The community ties are strong, though, and everyone takes care of one another. So crime is low.

His neighborhood of Banjo Creek feels like living in a time capsule, which is cool but also not cool when it comes to the long-term health of the place. Fernando is very anti-development, which I get the sentiment. It comes from a good heart, and some of the citizens absolutely ADORE him for it, but in my opinion, the pendulum has swung way too much in one direction compared to before he was elected (when we were having a lot of grave issues with “building murder” and cutting woodlands). Overall, Fernando is good at protecting his district, but not allowing it to grow,

I’m on City Council because because during my 20 years as a bluegrass school, every aggravation I’d come across I would want to change. Sometimes I didn’t feel like I had a voice to fix these problems. Being on City Council gives me a voice even if I can’t get what I want done. The challenge is listening to myself and the wants of my citizens. It’s my job to represent the citizens, but sometimes their ideas just aren’t very good. So how do I balance that, ya know? Still figuring that one out.
